Our Story
Everything began with the vision of a Former Stanford Admissions Officer who aspired to make world-class university admissions guidance accessible to students around the globe. After independently mentoring students of various nationalities, he founded HelloFAO in 2018 to expand his impact. As his student base grew, he began partnering with other Former Admissions Officers within his network to ensure the same level of personalized, high-quality support for every student.
As HelloFAO continued to grow, so did its team. The founder and CEO brought on board FAOs from top universities such as Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, the University of Pennsylvania, and more. He firmly believes that students aiming for the world’s best institutions deserve expert guidance from those who once sat on the other side of the admissions table, from the very people who helped shape the incoming classes of the most prestigious universities.
About Our Founder | Daniel Chung

In 2018, former Stanford admissions officer (AO), Daniel Chung, was at a crossroads. He was the first in his family to earn a bachelor’s degree–on a full scholarship–and wondered how to use his unique breadth and depth of expertise to help others interested in finding their college fit.

He had evaluated 10,000 high school applicants to Swarthmore College, Rice University, and Stanford University, and had voted on about 100,000 applicants in committees representing the global pool. He had obtained particularly deep insight into colleges where he co-led joint recruitment events with Harvard, Georgetown, UPenn, U Chicago, Columbia, Brown, Duke, and Cornell.
